The Band hails from Manchester Michigan, a historical
little town along the River Raisin, (their namesake).
And much like this river, the path of the Raisin Pickers'
has stretched from Upper Canada, to Branson, Nebraska
and West Virginia. They won a blue ribbon at the Appalachian
String Band Festival in West Virginia, have opened the
Ark's Ann Arbor Folk Festival, recorded four records over
the years and spearheaded a new festival in their hometown.
They continue touring throughout the Midwest and Canada
and organize the Riverfolk Festival held the first Saturday
of August in Manchester Michigan.

The Band Members
CAROL WELLS PALMS (string bass, vocals, fiddle) A classically trained
violist since her teens, Carol began her professional career
in the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. After years of hearing
just too many viola jokes, she decided to follow in her dad's
footsteps and began playing the string bass instead. This
switch came about the same time that Carol went a wee bit
more blonde, so she really only traded one style of bad jokes
for another. She's a fine vocalist, arranger and fiddler.
And when she's not performing with the Raisin Pickers she
directs an orchestra in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
MARK PALMS (banjo, vocals, guitar) His affinity for old
time music stems from childhood memories of his dad strumming
on an old banjo. This influence led Mark to traditional Appalachian
study on fiddle and clawhammer banjo. While working on his
music degree in college, Mark played jazz guitar in a big
band, where he chanced to meet Carol (oh! sweet fate) and
their musical collaboration began. Years later, Mark was given
an old family fiddle, and before long he found himself gathering
friends for rehearsals and the Raisin Pickers resulted. He
continues to explore the boundaries of string band music by
reviving old songs and writing new ones. Mark is the festival
director for the Riverfolk Music and Arts Festival and also
teaches elementary music in the Napoleon Community Schools.
DAVID MOSHER (mandolin, vocals, fiddle, guitar) Since
making the decision to follow his bliss in 1988 (and being
fired as a waiter) David has stitched his way into the fabric
of Michigan's musical scene. Having discovered that diversity
is stability, he performs on five different instruments, has
sung bass in a doo-wop group, tenor in several bluegrass bands
and has performed light opera. He is a prolific songwriter
with four solo projects to his name. David has performed on
and produced albums for the "who's who" of the Michigan
folk community, including Julie Austin's children's CD "Fandegumbo"
which won a Parents' Choice Award. He has toured the world
with his music but is just as happy to sit out on the back
porch pickin' in the sun.
