Conceived by Mitch Matthews, the project pays tribute to the
traditional ÒHigh LonesomeÓ sound but adds some contemporary attitude.
Multi-part vocal harmonies accompanied by rolling banjo,
flat-picked guitar, bass fiddle and Motor City themes make up the
tone of this matchless ensemble. ItÕs members come from an eclectic mix of
past Detroit outfits such as The Articles (Ska-Jazz), Gravel Train (Roots-Rock),
The Salt Miners (Old Timey) and Yellow Morgan (Rawk ÔNÕ Soul)
as well as from the Florida and German Bluegrass scenes.

The bandÕs repertoire includes originals from MatthewsÕ catalog
(one of which is featured on NPRÕs Car Talk CD ÒBorn Not to RunÓ),
as well as standards by bluegrass legends Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs and
Jimmy Martin. Bluegrass interpretations of artists not immediately
connected with the genre are also fair game in The Red Butlers set.

The band is currently booking local and regional shows, as well as recording a full length CD.
