After an Uncle Sam transfer from Virginia to Michigan, Clarence Aycock and John Allison, the
(Virginians) sat down with Dave Ferguson, a native Michigander (Plus) to play and enjoy their
kind of music, bluegrass. After six months of practice, they decided to see how well others
liked what they did and, in May 2005, they made their first public appearance. They have been
playing for audiences in the greater Detroit area ever since. Programs are primarily directed at
retirement communities and assisted living centers where audience involvement is encouraged.
Toward this end, song books featuring their songs, tambourines and shakers are handed out at
these events. In addition, the Virginia Gentlemen Plus have appeared at coffee shops, open
houses, block parties and dock parties. Their music is lively and uplifting. Performances
include traditional bluegrass performed their way, gospel, old time mountain music and folk.
Their stage chatter and audience involvement make them a commodity that generates
enthusiasm for bluegrass style music and many requests for return engagements.
