WMBMA is a non-profit organization established
in 1995 for the promotion and preservation of Bluegrass
Music. We promote two music festivals each year, always
on the third weekend in May and the third weekend in September.
We have regular association meetings with jam sessions
on the third Saturday of each month October through April
at the Highlander Lounge on Lake Michigan Drive in Standale.
Members receive a newsletter every other month. We
currently have about 360 members.
The corporate charter states
that the goals of SPBGMA are:
To preserve the traditional spirit
and art form of Bluegrass music,
To offer a management service for any community desiring
to hold a Bluegrass festival,
To organize and conduct Bluegrass Band competitions,
In all SPBGMA sponsored events, instruments must be
traditional acoustic instruments, no electrified instruments
permitted,
To encourage professionalism in appearance and showmanship
by the performers at SPBGMA events,
To encourage the support of various Bluegrass publications
and associations.
